5/13/15 Case Study (50 word min)

Recall or Regret?

Darius is a quality assurance supervisor for an auto parts manufacturer.  He discovers a flaw in a part used in diesel engines.  He believes the flaw may not necessarily be dangerous, and he knows is could require several months of testing and re-engineering to fix.

The factory has already produced and shipped 5,000 of these parts.  Darius knows the company is in financial trouble and would be devastated if they were required to recall the parts.  A recall now could also result in the layoff of hundreds of workers.  However, its his job to ensure the parts are perfect and he can't stop thinking about it.  Even though he thinks the defect is harmless, what if it isn't?  What should Darius do?

  1. I think he should tell someone above him in a higher position and get their opinion. If it is defective, they will have lots of angry people and lose a lot of money even if they don't recall it. They will probably be in more financial trouble if they don't recall it, and it is his job to take care of defective parts. If his boss finds out he could be fired.

  2. I think that he should let one of the company's higher people know and ask for their advice on what to do. If the flaw could be harmful, then a lot of people could be in trouble. If they have to recall it though, a lot of other people could be in financial trouble. He needs a second or even third opinion on the matter.

  3. He should tell one of the workers that could know what to do. If it is not defective many people will be angry. No one will buy it anymore and then many people will not have a job.

  4. I think that he should let one of the company's higher people know and ask for their advice on what to do. If it isn't successful then obviously it will be harmful to a lot of people and the would be int trouble so recall it and help the cause instead of harm it

  6. I think he should tell someone about the part. Because if it happens to cause damage to someone or if it is causing danger to people and he didn't tell anyone then he would also lose his job because he wasn't doing his job correctly. And then he should tell his boss his opinion of the part that needs recalled and let him make the choice to recall it or not.

  8. I think he should tell someone in a higher position and get their opinion. If it doesnt work, they will have a lot of mad people and lose a lot profit even if they don't recall it. They will probably be in more trouble if they don't recall it, and it is his job to take care of broken parts.

  10. He should tell them because if the part is dangerous it needs to be recalled. Even if it might make the company go under. You are risking other peoples life if you dont recall that part.

  11. I think the first step is to stop manufacturing that part and have it tested for any possible malfunctions and from there make a decision. If there is no way that it could hurt any thing it should be fine. If not there needs to be further actions taken.
